This page contains information of historical interest about the problems which arose at the turn of the century when dates changed from 1999... to 2000... Many old computers such as 386 PCs (and before) were be unable to hold the correct date when this happens. Some 486s had the same problem. Some software was also be affected and started giving erroneous outputs. Solving the problem required advance planning and was expensive in some cases. These links may not all work now.
