Richard Nestor was born in British Guiana (now Guyana) in 1945. He became a self-sufficient individual, doing printing, graphic arts, and sartorial arts. Then, tragically, in his early 40's he was struck by glaucoma. The disease cost him his sight. Fortunately he was able to get surgery in Surinam which helped to save a bit of his vision though it continues to deteriorate. Knowing that because of his condition it would be impossible for him to be hired by anyone, let alone to return to his previous lifestyle he dispaired. However he stumbled upon the art of macrame. Richard further developed his skill by going to a school in Parimaribo, Suriname. Thereafter he traveled the continent of South America extensively, visiting all of its countries and some of the Caribbean Islands. Richard is now reaching out via the internet to sell his works in order to support himself.

By buying a basket you will be helping this hardworking man to support himself.
