Meals on Wheels Volunteer
I am involved in church activities, shop for a shut-in and also help to clean the home of
two disabled friends
I am responsible for preparing and delivering meals to elderly and disabled persons in our
community. My job is to plan the meals, shop for the ingredients, cook and deliver
the meals. Some of the
recipients come to our kitchen for their meals. For many of those to whom a meal is
delivered this service is their main social contact.
I joined the Red Cross as a youth because I always wanted to be a nurse. I took some First
Aid and Home Nursing courses offered by the Red Cross and then volunteered to help in the
Meals on
Wheels kitchen. Since then I have continued to be involved in this area, and I enjoy
meeting the older people though at times they are hard to please :)
The Red Cross to me is being able to reach out to the sick and disabled persons in my
community.
A person who gives of their time to help less fortunate people.
I will continue to help in whatever way I can, but I would like to travel. |
