Welcome...

...to the new-look web site for Guyana's National Centre for Education Resource Development - NCERD.

NCERD, an educational institution which caters mainly for In-Service teacher education, endeavours to maintain a focus as we seek to give youth a desirable quality of education at all levels. NCERD was commissioned in 1986 by Mr. Amator M'Bow, then Secretary General of UNESCO. The institution that has served the nation since then recognizes that it still has to be further strengthened for its vision and long term goals to be realized.

The Vision

Initial teacher training cannot suffice. All teachers need to continually develop and grow professionally. NCERD attempts to fulfil these needs and discharge its mandate by collaborative interaction with many agencies and resource persons.

Each individual must communicate with others for both individual and social development. Where mastery of communication is limited, development is limited. Our focus on literacy at NCERD seeks to encourage the articulation of all desirable forms of communication for all aspects and all levels of development.

Mission Statement

The National Centre for Educational Resource Development (NCERD) is responsible for the planning and implementation of all in-service teacher education programmes. In discharging its responsibilities, NCERD aims to improve the quality of education at all levels in the system so that education may serve as an effective instrument of social and economic development.

NCERD in the Future

Through delivering its mission NCERD hopes to achieve:
