Measurement, Evaluation and Research Unit
The mission of the unit is to develop test instruments, to obtain and provide
useful information that would facilitate sound decision making within the
Ministry of Education and other agencies.
Primary General Objectives
- To develop tests and scales required for National Examinations.
- To process examination papers, and analyse the results for use by the
relevant personnel within the Ministry and other agencies.
- In service Professional development:
- To organise seminars and workshops in Item Writing and Test Construction
for personnel (teachers) and other officers within the Ministry and from
other agencies.
- Continuous training for teachers and other personnel to write
items and tests for varying levels using a Table of Specifications.
- To conduct research in areas related to Measurement and Evaluation.
- To work collaboratively with all other units at NCERD and other sections
of the Ministry of Education and other agencies to produce quality
education for Guyanese.
Specific Objectives
To formulate, and process the following examinations:
- Secondary Schools Entrance Examination (SSEE)
- Secondary Schools Proficiency Examination (SSPE)
- Guyana Technical Education Examination (GTEE)
- Pre-CXC
- Nursing Recruitment
- Post Office Recruitment (Retention)
- Post Office Promotion
Secondary Objectives
- To develop test item banks for the national tests.
- To upgrade and provide continuous training within the unit.
- To develop and edit test papers for the Ministry of Health and Post Office
and other agencies.
