The Mahaica Hospital located twenty-seven miles from Georgetown is a special area of responsibility of this Ministry.  It is administered by an Assistant Hospital Administrator who reports to the Ministry.  This officer is supported by a Ward Sister, a medex and other ancillary staff.  The services provided are: -
 

  Free medical care for patients in and out of hospital who are affected with Hansen’s disease
  The care of abandoned children
  The provision of meals for children and patients

A major concern of this Ministry is its responsibility for the children’s home, which provides for children in the age range of four to fifteen years.  The home is served by one residential social worker and Voluntary Service Officer (VSO) who are supported by ancillary staff in the care and supervision of the children.
