MISSION STATEMENT TO GUIDE, SUPPORT, MONITOR AND REGULATE CO-OPERATIVE DEVELOPMENT IN THE TEN ADMINISTRATE REGIONS OF GUYANA

 

THE OBJECTIVES OF THIS DEPARTMENT OF THE MINISTRY ARE AS FOLLOWS:

To guide the Co-operative Movement to become truly autonomous and self-reliant and to monitor and regulate the activities of Co-operatives and Friendly Societies in accordance with the Statutes.
 
 

THE FOLLOWING ARE ITS MAIN FUNCTIONS:

	To work with and encourage the Apex body and other secondary bodies to assume responsibility for the Co-operative Movement.
	To process registration and cancellation of societies in accordance with Regulations.
	To review and keep up to date the legal framework within which Co-operatives and Friendly Societies operate
	To give technical advice and guidance to societies located in all Regions, as may be required from time to time;
	To have the records of the Co-operative and Friendly Societies audited as a statutory requirement;
	To monitor the constitutions and financial status of all Societies.
	To provide for personnel training and development.
	To assess the performance of Co-operative development in the Regions
	To adjudicate disputes relating to the affairs of Co-operative Societies in accordance with Co-operative Societies Act;
