It contains information about the two project regions, as well as the background to the Guyana Education Access Project.
Jonquil Smith started work today as the new administrative assistant for GEAP Linden. She will be assisting Ed Denham in the office on Wismar Street with meetings, telephone calls and general clerical work.
Following a series of community consultations and input from external consultants, John Hilson and Michael Latham, the GEAP Masterplan has finally been approved by the Ministry of Education and DFID. This will now act as the working document for all GEAP's activities and planning.
Further reviews of the document will take place as necessary over the lifetime of the project. The current version is available to read online at www.geap.org.gy/plans/mplan.html
The Plam Tree Cinema on Burnham Drive, Wismar today showed "Much Ado About Nothing". This is the second film in a series of three - "Romeo and Juliet" was shown yesterday afternoon for Linden fifth form students and tomorrow "Richard III" is playing for English teacher-trainees. The event was organised jointly by Region 10 GEAP English Subject Specialist, Jean Hales and the British High Commission.
The GEAP Management team along with the VSOs and key Ministry of Education staff spent a valuable few days together at Baganara House, Demerara River. Much time was spent listening to reports from the two project regions and discussing ways forward, especially with respect to Community Involvement.

Stephen Wilkinson, the GEAP teacher trainer for Information Technology started the computer teacher-training today. Camillus McElhinney, a subject specialist from The National Centre for Educational Respource Development (NCERD), was a special-invitee and exhibited several multi-media learning resources.
Teacher-training in English content and methodology started today for teachers from the Primary Top sections of Linden primary schools. Similar training for teachers of mathematics starts on Thursday. The primary aim of this training is to aid the teachers in their progression to teaching up to a CXC level - a key aim of GEAP.
Three new VSO teacher trainers have arrived in Linden, eager to get started as soon as possible.
Marjolein Spee, the remedial teacher trainer from Holland, Steve Cooke, an Industrial Arts teacher trainer from the UK and Leena Vadher, a science teacher trainer from the UK, today checked into Jac's Hotel. They have been given a few days to settle down, and will start work next Monday. Marjolein will be based in Wismar Hill PS, Steve in Christianburg-Wismar SS and Leena in New Silvercity SS.
Following the fire at the old offices in Brickdam, GEAP today moved into a new building at NCERD, Battery Road, Georgetown. The building is shared with SSRP - ideal for both projects to share ideas.
GEAP Management, the VSOs from Linden and Corriverton and local counterparts to the Regional Advisers, met for two days at the Watooka Club, Linden. Much work was done on the draft of the masterplan and there was a chance for discussion about the progress made so far, particularly with regards to plans for the teacher training programmes.
The GEAP management team together with key Ministry of Education staff spent a useful few days together, working on the GEAP masterplan.
