Just before Lake Mainstay there is another very popular swimming area called Red Lock Creek (or Feather Beach).  This has a small beach, benches, clean blackwater for swimming, a shop nearby and a bridge for jumping from in the wet season!  Route - as for Mainstay, but a little cheaper (approx. 30 minutes from Anna Regina). It is a feasible and enjoyable cycle ride from Anna Regina to Redlock Creek on good tracks (ask someone to direct you).
