Course background:
Many people think that the most important requirement for a successful business is money. They think that once they have money they can make a success of their business.
Many believe that technical skills are the key to success in business.
While money and technical skills are important ingredients in business, they are not determinants of success. Indeed more important to success is attitude. It is a well-known fact that attitudes shape behaviour. Without the right attitude and their associated behaviours, money and technical skills will not lead to success. The 10-day workshop is about changing behaviours.

Designed for:
Individuals who intent to start their own businesses, owner-managers of small and medium sized businesses, corporate managers responsible for change management.
Course aims:
The 10 personal entrepreneurial competencies ( PECs ). These are taught through exercise, games, role-plays, business creation and competitions, even though the workshop is run in modules, participants are required to go through all the modules if they are to benefit from the programme.
Course outcomes:
By the end of the course participants will
- Be able to recognize the personal entrepreneurial competencies ( PECs )
- Have assessed their strengths and weaknesses
- Be able to use the PECs in real life situations
- Have crystallized
POST TRAINING SERVICES
Part of mandate of EMPRETEC Guyana is to provide one-on-one assistance to its clients. As such, The Centre has been equipped to administer the full range of Post Training Services as required under the EMPRETEC Programme. These services are available, but not necessarily limited to, participants of the Entrepreneurship Workshops.
As is expected of any enterprise, the sustainability of EMPRETEC Guyana is dependent upon its ability to cover operating costs. In order to recover these costs in the initial stages, a small fee would be charged for the services to be provided.
Following are some of the key services currently being offered by the EMPRETEC Guyana Centre.
Health Check and Business Diagnosis Services.
This service is free to all participants of the Entrepreneurship Workshops. The objective of this exercise is to determine areas of strengths or weakness, opportunities and threats in the planning, monitoring and financial controls in the business. Our role is to support and encourage our clients so as to enable them to build on their strengths, take advantage of opportunities while taking action to eliminate weakness or reduce threats.
Business Counselling and Advisory Services
As follow up to the Health Check exercise, these services are intended to help shape the decision making process of entrepreneurs in order to enable them to improve upon the operational efficiency of their business. Our approach to counselling is "client centred" considering their needs, concerns and current circumstances and may involve providing information, motivating, resolving arguments and problems.
Clients Accounting and Bookkeeping Service
The main objective of this service is to assist clients in preparing and keeping records of their business transaction as required under sound management practices and to guide them in the day-to-day management and control of their business. Having accurate financial information on the key areas of the business is critical to alerting the owner of the likelihood of overall success or failure.
Credit Facilitation and Loan Monitoring
Financial Intuitions have certain prerequisites which clients seeking financial support need to fulfill before any assistance could be offered. The main objective of the credit facilitation service is to assist clients with viable projects to obtain credit facilities from financial institutions. In this regard EMPRETEC Guyana will review you business plan, investigate which bank is likely to finance your project, assist you to prepare the necessary application, liaise with the bank on your behalf and even assist you with the negotiations.
Business Plan Preparation and Review
EMPRETEC Guyana can help you formulate a successful business plan whether you wish to establish the viability of an enterprise or to raise finance. In view of the high probability of new business failures, this instrument is very useful. A business plan forces the entrepreneur to think carefully and objectively about the business thus avoiding 'emotional fantasy'
Export Development
We can assist clients, with the potential, to identify export markets, undertake assessment of their capacity to fulfill export orders and arrange technical assistance needed to meet export orders.
Promoting and Developing Linkages between SMEs and Foreign Companies
In a world of rapid technological advancements businesses can no longer afford to rely solely on domestic markets if the wish to remain competitive. Hence, building linkages with foreign firms can benefit both parties substantially. The aim of this services is to assist client companies to be geared towards satisfying the global market by capitalising on technology, management expertise and other forms of investment from foreign companies.
