The EMPRETEC Guyana Centre was established on March 1, 2003 with the aim of supporting and advancing entrepreneurship development in Guyana by working directly with small and medium business and providing access to a comprehensive and integrated range of services to enhance the participation of these enterprises in the national development effort of the EMPRETEC project.
The national Project Management Team currently comprises the executive Director, post Training Officer/Business Advisor and Administrative Assistant. This team is supported by a group of free lance EMPRETEC trainers and consultants. The project Management Team reports to an executive Committee which oversees the general management of the project and which in turn receives strategic guidance from and Advisory Board. UNCTAD EMPRETEC currently provides technical support to the project.
To date the EMPRETEC Guyana Project has made significant progress in the execution of its activities. At this juncture, seven (7) Entrepreneurship Training workshops have been successfully conducted and a total of one hunderd and ninty-one (191) entrepreneurs have been certified as "empretecos". These empretecos continue to demand the post training services offered by EMPRETEC as they seek to build their capacity to compete effectively.
The EMPRETEC Project has been fashioned after the widely acclaimed EMPRTEC concept which focuses on carefully screening entrepreneurs with growth potential and developing their personal entrepreneurial competencies
