Department Overview

Student Development department handles a wide range of areas for the college. Department responsibilities include, registration, management of grants, student counseling and uniform administration.

 

General Information

Registration

New Students are admitted to the College on the specific day identified for Registration. A student officially becomes a member when he or she completes and signs all registration documents.

Grants:

Each student on the Pre-Service programs receives a monthly grant

Students on the In-Service program will continue to receive their salary at the school to which they are attached.

N.B. Should a student commit a breach of the Agreement any time before the completion of the five years of service, such a student is liable to repay the Government both the cost of tuition and the total amount of grants received by the student as well as the accrued.

Accommodation:

Accommodation in the dormitories at Turkeyen may be available during term time to students from outlying areas for a monthly fee of five hundred dollars ($500.00) (subject to change) payable by deduction from monthly grants. This amount covers both boarding and lodging. A student who is given accommodation in the dormitory is expected to comply with the rules and regulations of the dormitory.

The Non-Resident Student is advised to secure accommodation as close to the college as possible, so that he/she will be able to participate fully in all aspects of the College Programme.

Use of the Cafeteria:

Meals will not be prepared for non-resident students who will be expected to bring along their own lunches which must be taken in the dining area of the Bain Gray Hall.

No student is permitted to eat meals in the classrooms. All eating must be done in the BGH during the lunch period 11:30 a.m. to1:30 p.m. Students are also not permitted to smoke in the cafeteria, not engage in games there while meals are being served and/or eaten

There should be no eating along the catwalks

Fine for loss or Damage

A student failing to return at times specified, books borrowed form the College stock or library will be required to make payment to the value of the books outstanding plus the cost of replacement. Similarly, a student found responsible for the loss or damage to the College property through avoidable, negligent, or by wilful action, will be required to meet the cost of replacement or repair. Such sums are payable by deduction from the monthly of the Pre-Service students and monthly salaries of In-Service.


Campus Activities

All students, when called upon, are expected to participate in Campus and Off-Campus activities, organised by the Administrative/Ministry of Education.

Student organised or sponsored activities

Any group, class, organisation, or individual etc who wishes to organise any activity on Campus must seek permission of the Principal, through Student Affairs in writing at least one week before the activity is to take place.

Personal Conduct

(a) Assignments: All assignments must be done conscientiously, and written assignments, must be submitted on time. They should be done in the student’s own hand writing and should reflect the student’s own effort.

(b) Behaviour: Students are expected to conduct themselves with courtesy, dignity, consideration for others and restraint, on campus and in public places, especially when in uniform. Loud speech, vulgar and abusive language, raucous laughter, indecent gestures and physical confrontations and abuses are all examples of unacceptable behaviour and will not be tolerated at the institution. Any such irresponsible behaviour makes a student liable for suspension and/or expulsion from the programme.

Student's Guild

Each student registered in the College automatically becomes a member of the Students Guild which is directed by an elected Students Council. Each student is required to contribute forty dollars ($40.00) which will be deducted from grants monthly, or paid monthly from salaries.

Flag Raising:

A flag-raising ceremony is followed by General Assembly monthly and attendance is compulsory.

Married Students

Although married students of both sexes are admitted to the College a student wishing to marry while being a member of the College must inform the Chief Education Officer through the Principal in writing. A married couple is not allowed to live in residence.
