The Embassy of the People's Republic of China
Guyana's relations with the People's Republic of China have always been very good since Guyana was the first country in the region to establish first trade, and then diplomatic relations with China. Guyana had actually supported and campaigned for the PRC to get its rightful place in the United Nations General Assembly and in the Security Council in 1971. A Trade Representative Office was established in Georgetown by the PRC on 11th March, 1972, and a Chinese Embassy on 27th June, 1972. A splendid new Chinese Embassy was built and opened in September 2001 on land allocated by the Government on Mandela Avenue. China's current and 10th Ambassador to Guyana effective April 2002, is Song Tao. In 1973 Guyana had also established a Guyana Embassy in China and had appointed David Singh as its first Ambassador to China. Over the years the PRC has been very helpful to Guyana in several economic and technical projects such as the Moco-Moco Hydro-power Station, Bel-Lu Claybrick Factory, bicycle Assembly Plant, Guyana Green Farm, and Sanata Textile Mill. Many doctors have also helped in providing health care in Guyana and still continue to do so.
