Radio Network
Technician Kid James testing radio at Akutho
After years of trying to establish its own radio network, the APA’s radio communication system is finally off the ground. It is very significant for the organisation that the first radio was installed at the Wai Wai village of Akutho, a village in the southernmost part of Guyana where there are few visitors. The APA central office in Georgetown now has links with Santa Rosa, Moruca, Region 1; Paruima and Kako in the Upper Mazaruni, Region 7, Paramakatoi and Chenapou in Region 8, and Toka, North Rupununi and Akutho, Deep South,Region 9.
This has greatly improved communication between the APA central office and the communities. The radios are powered by a twelve volts battery which are recharged by solar panel systems.
