APA WORKSHOPS

Participants at workshop in Georgetown

The APA carried out the second in its series of Capacity Building workshops during October 2-9 in Georgetown . Participants, which included some Toushaos and other community leaders, were drawn from Regions 1,2,7,8 and 9.

These workhops are designed to train participants to be local human rights advocates in their communities. They provide an introduction to international human rights standards and procedures and also discuss the Amerindian Act and other Guyanese legislation relevant to Amerindians.

By the end of the workshops, participants are expected to have a basic understanding of Guyanese and international law and how these could be applied to local situations back in the communities.
